Ged Austin, known as Manchester’s “Urban Poet” is coming back to Handforth soon for his next Guided Walk. The Friends of Handforth Station (FoHS) have commissioned a series of these walks; this one will be from Handforth Station to Styal and back.
This Guided Walk will start from Handforth Station at 10:30 on Sunday 9th October, will be a gentle stroll covering about 8 Km, and is expected to last about 4 hours. Ged says “Expect adventure, history, nature, some laughs, walking … and plenty of talking. Bring your drinks and a snack in a backpack, and wear sturdy footwear and clothing appropriate for whatever the weather provides.”
Comments from some of Ged’s previous walks include
- “It was fascinating to see so much history being revealed in such an interesting manner”
- “Even though I’ve walked the paths he took us along several times before, there was so much I hadn’t even spotted, let alone knew about”
- “A guided Station back to Station walk is a very civilised way to learn about the local environment”
Jenny Barnes, Chair of FoHS, says “Take the train ! This walk is designed to suit travel using Northern Trains: the service from Manchester via Stockport gets to Handforth at 10:16, and the service from Crewe via Wilmslow gets in at 10:25.”
This Guided Walk will start from Handforth train station at 10.30am sharp on Sunday the 9th of October. No booking needed; just turn up before 10:30.
