All Aboard. Those are the words you click on to enter the Friends of Goostrey Station website friendsofgoostreystation.org . This simple action opens up a wealth of information about this multi award winning group of local volunteers and about travelling by train to and from Goostrey Station. FoGS members encourage everyone to have a look.
The first page has the title Great Things Have Small Beginnings and it’s an overview of FoGS achievements. Other pages have details about the history of the station, the restoration of the Victorian wooden building and the increase in biodiversity in the gardens.
The force behind the website is FoGS member Gavin Hollinshead. He set up the site and regularly updates it. Click on a headline such as The Platinum Plaque is in place and New Plaques, and you’ll find some photos and a few words to summarise a significant event at Goostrey Station. In Autumn 2021 he started a blog about events at Goostrey Art Studio. You can find out about how the studio was fitted out, successful applications for funding and creative workshops for our community.
At the moment Gavin is looking at ways in the which website can support sustainable travel. He’s already included train timetables and information about tickets, railcards and passes. He’s adding links to cycle routes and local buses. You can even discover how to deal with siderodromophobia – the fear of trains!
