On Monday 26th February 2024, and at the invitation of Deborah Robson, representatives from the Friends of Handforth Station (FOHS) attended a meeting of the 1st Handforth Beavers. FoHS members Mike Bishop and Roger Small participated in the meeting by running an educational quiz. This took the form of a Powerpoint show in which each of 20 slides presented a question based on three Handforth-related images. The title of the quiz was “How well do Beavers know Handforth?” Most of the questions were based on Handforth’s buildings old and new. However, other questions involved subjects as diverse as “Which type of train often stops at Handforth Station?”, “Which species of bird can often be seen foraging in the lawns surrounding the library?” and “Where does Handforth Town Council normally meet?” Each Beaver was issued with an answer sheet on which they were required to circle a letter (A, B or C) to indicate their answers. Some of the Beavers who participated in the quiz scored very highly, obtaining marks of 14 out of 20.
Deborah Robson (Beaver Scout Leader) commented “The quiz was really good. It’s always nice for the Beaver pack to have visitors. We look forward to the quiz being presented to the second half of the Beaver pack next Thursday”. Mike Bishop (President of FoHS) said “The Friends of Handforth Station are always pleased to be able to engage with the younger element of the population of Handforth, particularly if such engagement has elements of both entertainment and education.”
