The Friends of Handforth Station (FoHS), who celebrated the 25th anniversary of their founding on 30th November, announced the latest exhibit in their Art In A Box feature at the Station.
This year, it was the turn of local primary school school Handforth Grange to get into the Festive Spirit. Pupils from Key Stage 2 (aged 7 to 11) under the supervision of teacher Daniella Hassell, created some winter-themed artwork. Each of the three pieces of art features a silhouette design surrounded by a stained-glass window effect.
Daniella said, “Our pupils loved thinking about what would work best at the station, and then creating the complex stained-glass effect. We aimed for big bold designs with a Christmas-time theme.”
The Art In a Box installation at Handforth Station was created by FoHS in 2015, when two old bike lockers were re-painted and fitted out for the purpose.
Jenny Barnes, the Arts Coordinator for FoHS, said, “We aim to feature artwork from the local community in the AIAB lockers. In December we traditionally ask a school to get involved, and we are delighted by what Handforth Grange have done for us this year.”
Jenny added, “Over the years, our many artworks at Handforth Station, including Art In A Box, have been a key factor in getting us noticed not only locally but also more widely in the UK. This, in turn, has contributed towards our success in gaining awards, and achieving many enhancements to the station.”
The Handforth Grange display is planned to be displayed until early in 2022.
