News from Goostrey Art Studio
What a busy time for professional artist Debbie Goldsmith! During the past few weeks she has led workshops in Goostrey, on Piccadilly Station and at Leighton Hospital. In addition, her own paintings have been displayed in Manchester and Bath.
The workshops at Goostrey Art Studio and at Goostrey Scout Hut were for children from local uniformed organisations. They thoroughly enjoyed decorating T-shirts and making paper flowers and jack-in-the-boxes. The Rainbows from Holmes Chapel were excited to arrive by train!
During Community Rail Week, Debbie encouraged passengers on the busy concourse at Piccadilly railway station to make badges and colour by numbers. This was a way of engaging people in order to talk about the work that Community Rail is doing. At the same time, she launched a family activity booklet for children travelling on the Crewe to Manchester line that she has designed with artist Amy Glover. Friends of Goostrey Station helped with this event and they were delighted to be joined by volunteers from Romiley and Alderley Edge stations.
Debbie supported Mid Cheshire Hospitals’ well-being week by inviting employees to make window hangings with a botanical theme. There was lots of positive feedback from staff who took a few minutes from their working day to get involved. It was a ‘really zen activity’ commented one participant. ‘It was lovely to be able to switch off from work just for a few minutes’ added another. A third said that it was good to support other staff by working together.
Debbie’s solo exhibition at the Lowry Hotel runs daily 10am-10pm until 25th July. She was thrilled to read this review : ‘Such a vibrant uplifting show. These corridor shows add such colour and dynamism to the space, elevating the hotel environment to something else entirely.’ At the moment, Debbie is planning a trip to the Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath to see one of her paintings hanging in a lush interior designed by Woodhouse and Law.
Debbie is really putting Goostrey Station and Goostrey Art Studio on the map! For up-to-date information about Debbie’s work, please have a look at the FoGS website or follow her on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
