The Friends of Handforth Station (FoHS) and Handforth Town Council (HTC) have collaborated to install a copy of the new Handforth Town Map at Handforth Station.

The new town map was originally designed in 2023 by a committee member of FoHS, with enhancements from other FoHS members and then from HTC councillors. Two copies, printed in full colour at size A0, have already been installed by HTC at two points in the town where footfall is judged to be highest: the Paddock and Handforth Dean.

The Friends of Handforth Station (FoHS) have used a grant, very gratefully received from the Crewe to Manchester Community Rail Partnership (C2MCRP), to pay for two more copies to be installed at the station.
However, Handforth station is still waiting for a pair of lifts to be built. Accordingly, Network Rail and Northern Trains have placed a temporary embargo on the installation of new infrastructure at the station. Because of this, the FoHS plans – to install the new maps permanently at the station – must wait until after the lifts are installed.
FoHS are still permitted to make changes to displays inside the ticket office. So, on Saturday 24th February, during the course of a scheduled Work Party, several members of FoHS gathered to install one of their two town maps in a Perspex display panel inside the ticket office.

FoHS president, Mike Bishop said ”FoHS have been pleased by the very effective collaboration with HTC in designing and producing these maps. We are eagerly looking forward to the much-delayed lift installation, after which our map project can be completed by installing our two maps even more clearly visible at the station – either on the station concourse or at platform level”.
